What Happens After Shredding?

Shredding is normally only one stage of an aluminum recycling process. Once the window frames have been reduced in size, the material can be transferred to magnetic separation, eddy current separation, screening, or other sorting equipment depending on the composition of the incoming scrap.

Ferrous components such as steel screws or brackets can potentially be removed by magnetic separation. Aluminum pieces can then be further classified according to the requirements of the recycling operation.

For facilities processing relatively clean aluminum frames, a simple shredding and sorting arrangement may be sufficient. For demolition waste containing several materials, a more complete recycling line may be more appropriate.
