The experts who participated in the E-Scrap Virtual online event stated that e-scrap metals market was significantly impacted by coronavirus pandemic. They outlined several market factors that impacted precious metals pricing and demand, which ultimately cut short the supplies. The participants of the roundtable on metals market included George Lucas of Gannon & Scott, Joe Bernhardt of Aurubis AG and Julie Daugherty of Multimetco.
According to Joe Bernhardt, printed circuit boards (PCBs) were the hardest material stream to be sourced. The volume of devices shipped to downstream companies like Aurubis recorded notable decline. The device dismantling operations were impacted badly, as safety concerns limited the number of employees at work. However, the company witnessed steadier flow of computers, laptops and other home office devices.
George Lucas observed that the flow of electronics was hugely hit by workforce disruption. Meantime, Julie Daugherty noted that the Multimetco’s platinum metals group smelter in Alabama witnessed recovery in inbound supply from domestic customers starting June this year, following the dip in May.
The online event noted that facilities have been increasingly investing in infrastructure with the goal of creating a cleaner commodity.
