RG Jonesboro, operated by Alter Trading Corp., agreed to relocate its scrap yard facility in downtown location of Flint Street to an industrial area location in eastern Jonesboro over a period of years. The agreement to this effect was signed between Mayor Harold Perrin and Alter Trading Corp. Chief Administrative Officer Jack Grundfest.
The TRG Jonesboro scrap yard was alleged to be a hindrance for redevelopment of downtown Jonesboro.
Mayor Perrin stated that the company will start moving materials and equipment from the downtown facility to the new site. Upon shifting all the assets to the new site, Alter Trading will eventually close the downside site. The entire process may take some time. The city will stay in touch throughout the completion of the process, he added. Further, an ordinance will be introduced in the Jonesboro City Council to ban new junk, salvage, or scrap yards within the city limits, Mayor said.
The agreement comes after almost a year of negotiations between the two sides.
